TOP FISHING SPOTS IN PERTH

Given Perth’s excellent weather, stunning beaches and various waterways, there are many opportunities for recreational fishing without having to leave the metropolitan area. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or new to the sport, you can choose from a variety of fishing hot spots within the vicinity of Perth. These fishing trips can be very productive, too, as there are so many different fish species in the water. Here are some of the best fishing spots in Perth.

TWO ROCKS

Two Rocks is a popular fishing destination in Perth. It’s an expansive area, so there are a lot of good spots for beach and reef fishing. Leeman’s Landing and Two Rocks Marina are the best spots to fish for Tailor and Mulloway. You can also use a 4WD in the northern part of Two Rocks to search for more fishing spots. There are plenty of gutters and small reef areas that are suitable for fishing. You can also head to open water for boat fishing.

SWAN RIVER

Swan River is a 72-km estuary that flows through the heart of Perth. As such, there are a lot of great fishing spots suitable for both land-based and boat fishing. In the summer, some of the best areas to fish in are Canning Bridge, The Causeway, Mt Henry, The Narrows, Point Walter, Leeuwin Boat Ramp and Applecross Jetty. In the winter, anglers can head to the jetties around Claremont and Mossman Park.

HILLARYS

The calm and clear waters in Hillarys make it a great fishing destination. The rock walls at Hillary’s Boat Harbour and the jetty near the Aquarium of Western Australia (AQWA) are popular spots. You’ll be able to catch Whiting, Skippy, Tailor, Garfish, Herring, Bream and Snook.

FREMANTLE

Fremantle is another popular destination for land-based fishing, specifically the North and South Mole rock walls. Though both fishing spots yield good results, you’ll have slightly better fishing odds in North Mole. However, the rocks are more dangerous, so this area isn’t suitable for newbie fishos. There are also jetties and boat charters in the area for more fishing opportunities.

Right after a productive fishing trip, you can head to Fremantle Harbour for expansive water views and other activities.

ROTTNEST ISLAND

Rottnest Island is a popular holiday destination off the coast of Western Australia. A lot of anglers also head to the island for recreational fishing. Ideal conditions mean that you’ll be able to have productive year-round fishing trips. Though fishing is prohibited in sanctuary zones, you can head to the rock platforms, headlands and beaches for shoreline fishing. Thomson Bay, Geordie Bay, Radar Reef and Ricey Beach are some of the most popular fishing spots in Perth.

These five fishing spots in Perth highlight the immense number of opportunities there are for recreational fishing close to the city. Whether you’re fishing from the rocks, on the beach or aboard your boat, you’ll be able to choose from a lot of great locations.
