SMARTER WAYS TO COOK HEALTHY MEALS IN LESS TIME

If you are like everyone else, there is nothing appealing about spending an hour to shop, another hour to unpack, another hour to cook and then eat dinner in 20 minutes. It can be so time-consuming. Getting all the shopping done in bulk helps save money and can make daily shopping a lot more pleasurable. There still is the issue of cooking that always seems to take so much time compared to how long we all spend at the dinner table. Worse that that, there are still the dishes to do afterwards.

Here is a look at ways to speed up your cooking times to make making dinner a more satisfying experience because great, healthy meals don’t have to suck.

DIFFERENT PANS

Get rid of that old saucepan for wider and shallower pans to speed up your cooking time. Thinner pans with a wider surface area heat up faster because they have more surface area in contact with the heat source as well as your food has more surface area to cook on. Quick meals like stir fries are excellent for healthy and fast-to-make meals.

USE YOUR MICROWAVE SMARTER

Your microwave is the multitasker’s bestie in the kitchen. You can use the microwave to steam vegetables, cook rice and much more, including baking potatoes. Using a microwave means you don’t make as much mess and you’re not fidgeting over the stove. Microwaves are just perfect for cooking frozen vegetables if you are looking for a really easy and hassle free healthy dinner.

GO SLOW FOR SPEED

Slow cookers are great for preparing a meal and leaving it to cook. When it comes to dinner time you will have little to do. Sometimes, it is better to break up the cooking process so you don’t have to do everything after coming back from work. This also applies for when making a sauce for pasta. Some of the best sauces I make are the sauces that have been going for a few days. The flavours get stronger over time. I alway make enough for a few full dinners and place in the fridge for a little reheating after adding a bit of water, of course.

USE YOUR WAIT TIME

The key to reducing time in the kitchen is using your time well. The perfect time to prep your meal is while the oven is warming, for example. You’ll also cook smarter and faster if you have everything out you need before you get started. That includes ingredients and utensils.

DITCH THE OLD TOASTER

Get rid of that single-function old toaster for a smarter and more versatile toaster oven. Small toaster ovens can do a lot of cooking and take less time that your standard oven to heat up. I love sweet potato I cook in a toaster oven. They are great for cooking cheesy potatoes too. A small dish of thinly sliced potatoes, mayonnaise, shredded cheese with a bit of olive oil and they are done in less than 12 minutes.

WASH AS YOU GO

Washing dishes as you go while you are cooking is a great way to get rid of the majority of the dishes that really kill the buzz of a great meal. There is nothing like using the excuse that you are cooking and need help for this one.
