QUICK GUIDE TO SAFE WATER WHEN CAMPING, KAYAK FISHING AND FISHING

Even the most delicious looking water can be very dangerous for your health. It can be very tempting to drink water when you feel like you are dying of thirst. The problem is, you could end up dying of dehydration because you lose more water out of the other end of your body. Running water does not guarantee that water is safe to drink. Who knows, in some parts of Australia, you could be drinking uranium-contaminated water. That’s a bit extreme, but you just don’t know so it is always best to assume that water is not fit for consumption until you process it.

Here is a look at some safe and easy ways to process water.

GET THOSE PATHOGENS OUT OF THE WATER BEFORE YOU DRINK

BOILING

Boiling water is the best and safest way to ensure water is ready to drink. If you have a heat source, go with this one every time. Make sure you boil the water for more than 3 minutes.

PUMP FILTERS

Pump filters are an excellent way to provide a large source of drinkable water. They are designed to give water to groups of people. The best thing is the fact that water is ready as soon as you pump it.

IODINE TABLETS

Iodine tablets are easy to carry and water is ready to drink within 30 minutes. They are great for when you are on the go.

GRAVITY FILTERS

Gravity filters are easy to use and cost next to nothing. Essentially they are two bags connected by a tube which has a filter the water must pass through. They are great for hiking and when you are on the move. Your water will be ready as soon as it has passed through the filter.

LIFESTRAWS

Lifestraws are the final solution. They are affordable and can be bought from most camping stores. They provide an instant solution for a small amount of water.
