WHY I LOVE MY CAMPING SWAG

If you like sleeping on in your own space even when you are trekking and camping in a group, you are a bit like me. I enjoy the comradery of travelling in a group but I do love having my own space when it comes time to put my head down. So apart from having my own space, why do I love my camping swag?

CAMPING IS EASIER WITH A SWAG

From taking it with me to setting it up, my single person camping swag goes up in seconds. I’m never one left struggling with a mallet trying to get tent pegs to stay in hard, flaky ground. Even after a few drinks around the campfire when a chat over a beer has turned into 6 of them, setting up a swag takes seconds.

I CARRY MY ESSENTIALS IN MY SWAG

For shorter trips, I don’t even need carry a bag for my essentials. I put them in my swag and roll it up. My camping swag also acts as a carry bag when I don’t have to carry much. I can go with a simple backpack and my swag and I am ready to go. That’s great for me who like to avoid excessive planning and preparation.

SWAGS HAVE BEDDING INCLUDED

Most camping swags have some sort of bedding included. Mine is a Wentworth and comes with a high-density foam mattress. If you have slept in a tent with nothing but a sleeping bag you will understand why I love the high-density foam mattress. If you have a camping tent, you should always get yourself an inflatable mattress or a high-density foam mattress to suit. There’s just nothing worse that sleeping on lumpy ground. So yeah, I don’t have to pack a separate mattress as well.

I also put my sleeping bag in my swag laid out. That way I can roll up my swag and my sleeping bag in one carry pack.

WARMER THAN TENTS

When it is cold out, you will notice sleeping in swag is a whole lot warmer because there is less space inside. The smaller volume of air and my own body warm (as well as my breathing) stays trapped inside the swag. This results in a much warmer experience. The high-density foam mattress also works to keep me warm. My swag is made from ripstop canvas. This is great for keeping me dry from top to bottom. I don’t even need a separate tarp or ground sheet with the design of my camping swag.

OPEN AIR VIEWING FOR

Another feature of many swags is that you can open the top canvas layer. It’s great on hot summer nights because it lets the heat out, fresh air in while keeping mosquitoes at bay with the fly screen mesh. There’s a second opening in mine which allows air to flow in near my head, and I really love that.

So, apart from getting the fresh air I need on a hot night to get a good sleep, I get a view of the stars.

SWAGS ARE TOUGH

A good quality swag will last for many years and many trips. They are designed for the toughest of conditions.

SLEEP WHERE YOU WANT AND WHEN YOU WANT

You are not limited to the ground with a swag. I’ve slept in the back of a truck when I’ve had the opportunity. Why not sleep off the ground if you can. I’m keen on sleeping when I want and not when the sun dictates. I love my swag for being darker inside compared with most tents. Most camping swags are made of canvas materials and they blend in well with the landscape. I like sleeping under cover at the same time knowing there is less chance I will be disturbed.

Yes, I am a huge fan of camping swags. They are another Aussie invention I feel proud of. They are even popular around the world with campers everywhere today.
