It’s not surprising that there are a lot of awesome mountain bike trails in Australia. If you are looking for a challenge, here are some of the most picturesque trails beginners and more experienced bikers will definitely love.
OURIMBAH STATE FOREST, NEW SOUTH WALES
The Ourimbah State Forest located at the southern end of the Watagan mountain range on the central coast of New South Wales has an area dedicated to mountain biking. It has numerous single track and fire trails mountain bikers can discover. It also has an exhilarating downhill course situated 200 vertical metres above of the car park.
TEWANTIN NATIONAL PARK, QUEENSLAND
Located on the Sunshine Coast, the Tewantin National Park has several single tracks that attract mountain bikers from all around. Expect a memorable riding experience in the park while surrounded by pine trees, eucalyptus and sub-tropical bushes. Some of its most famous tracks are known as the Snake and Bloodwood, Milkmaid, Quoll and Froglett and Secrets.
THREDBO MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK, NEW SOUTH WALES
Even if you’re just a beginner to the sport and looking for challenging mountain bike trails in Australia, you’d definitely enjoy riding along the numerous trails at the Thredbo Mountain Bike Park.
If you want to experience riding for the first time, you will surely enjoy the Thredbo Valley Track that features easy-going trails, scenic rest areas as well as breathtaking river views of the popular Thredbo River. More advanced mountain bikers can also have a field day at the park’s Cannonball Downhill Trail that has an exhilarating 600-metre vertical drop.

Located approximately 12 kilometres south-east of the central business district of Adelaide, the Eagle Mountain Bike Park features a network of biking trails that will appeal to all types of mountain bikers. It also has a specially designed downhill trail, a long stretch of cross-country trails, a trials area, a jump park as well as a skills development park.

KALAMUNDA MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK, WEST AUSTRALIA
If you happen to be in Perth, take your bike 40 minutes away from the city centre and experience exhilarating rides on some of the most challenging trails in the area. Trails include the Loco en el Coco that begins at the top of Mt. Gunjin and descends North to Mundaring Weir Road.
HOLLYBANK RESERVE, TASMANIA
The biggest pump track and jump track in Australia is located in the Hollybank Reserve, just a few minutes away from Launceston, Tasmania. It has a challenging track called the Juggernaut trail that features a 10-kilometre descent that’s filled with lots of rock obstacles and drops.
Some of these tracks and trails provide more challenge than the others. And that’s what I like about them. Whether you are a beginner or looking for something more challenging, you will find what you are looking for at any of these amazing locations.
