Secret Camping Spots

HOW TO FIND SECRET CAMPING SPOTS IN AUSTRALIA

Camping is a great way to escape the city and or suburbs temporarily. Unfortunately, campsites in Australia are usually overflowing with visitors over the peak seasons. If you want a peaceful and tranquil experience, you’ll have to find somewhere a little out of the way.

Here are some of my tips for finding secret camping spots.

EXPLORE YOUR SURROUNDINGS

You need to have a penchant for exploring if you want to find secret camping spots. Instead of following the usual routes, get off the beaten path. That doesn’t mean travelling off to remote locations either. There might be a secret camping spot just outside the city that’s been waiting for you to discover.

POPULAR DESTINATIONS AS A GUIDE

You don’t have to stay away from popular tourist destinations when looking for a hidden spot to put up your posts. However, when it comes to setting up camp, you don’t have to head to where everyone else is staying. I often venture off a little bit to find somewhere hidden to remain.

ASK THE LOCALS

Who knows a particular region better than the locals? The problem is that they might not want to give up the information. If you have spent any time in the bush or rural Australia, you will know that people keep their secrets, just as anglers don’t talk about their favourite fishing spots. You’ll have to be relaxed and take your time about asking for a hidden gem.

SEEK FELLOW TRAVELLERS’ ADVICE

Apart from the locals, there’s also value in seeking the advice of fellow travellers. If you encounter other campers heading back home, see if you can get any information out of them.

ONLINE RESOURCES

Truthfully, it’s unlikely that you’ll be the first one to discover a particular camping spot. Many travellers have come before you, and many will come after you. With that said, you can learn a lot about a region by doing some research online first. Google Maps is an excellent tool for getting a good look at the land from above.

While some want to explore the outdoors with as many companions as possible, there are also others who wish to camp in solitude. If you’re the latter, like me, then try these ideas to find somewhere hidden to camp your holiday. Oh, and don’t forget to share the location with the community here at DINGA Online and OnDECK.
