ARE YOU EXPERIENCED: THE FISHING CHARTER AFTERGLOW
What do you think about fishing charters? The first thing that comes to my mind, and I’m game to say most often, is the fact that they are expensive. Well, that’s just the immediate feeling one can get when thinking of a fishing charter. I am talking about a proper fishing expedition on the deep blue, that’s what a fishing charter means to me.
I am definitely not talking about a cheap one day tour with the masses where you get to play with fish somewhere along the route for pictures. There is a big difference between a tour and a fishing charter. Don’t confuse cruise, tour with fishing tours either, because fishing tours are often just as professional as a fishing charter. Also, don’t confuse a charter with a fishing charter.
A charter is just the boat and the crew, and they normally focus on the touristy side of things or the luxury getaway. They are not fishing charters run by seasoned anglers and a captain who love what they do. Oh, and yes, some of them have grown to have a number of boats and become bigger companies but fishing charters are fishing charters, they are serious about the fishing experience.
HOW TO TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF A FISHING CHARTER
The best thing about fishing charters is that they really know their region. If you want to go on a fishing charter, there is no better time than when you are travelling, or you want to make a destination fishing trip a part of your holiday with mates.
Not too many of us are from Ningaloo Reef or Kakadu, not all of us live in sunny Queensland and get to hang around Hervey Bay all the time. These are all great destinations for a fishing trip. Even if it is only once in a lifetime.
LOCAL RECREATIONAL FISHING GUIDELINES
Before you go fishing anywhere in Australia, it is important you know the local recreational fishing guidelines. Ignorance is no excuse. Now, while state laws may cover a lot the rules related to recreational fishing, that is not always the case.
HOW TO FIND OUT RECREATIONAL FISHING REGULATIONS IN AUSTRALIA
So, what do you do? You simply search in Google “any place name recreational fishing guidelines” or “recreational fishing guidelines any place” and you will get a bunch of great results.
Now, you just have to read through them and make sure you are in the know but some places are just more organised at giving out information than others. It is quite possible that a local organisation may have say over recreational fishing in their local region. You will need to know that too.
FISHING CHARTERS MAKE A DESTINATION FISHING TRIP AWESOME
Fishing charters are awesome. You will get the local knowledge you can rely on that comes from hands-on experience by those who are really experienced. You can still do your own research through fishing forums and the like but you won’t find the information anywhere online that you will get when you are on a fishing charter.
If you are doing a week destination fishing trip, think about taking at least a day with a fishing charter. You’ll be informed, you will have the experience of a lifetime, you will get that local knowledge you just can’t get anywhere else, and they’ll probably point you in the right direction if you want to head on to the next nearby fishing adventure.
So yeah, I totally enjoyed my experience on a fishing charter and that’s the reason why I wrote this. For me, as someone who is quite into fishing, the experience I had on a fishing charter with mates and the crew, and the captain all going for it, was simply awesome. It took me quite a while to save up enough to have the trip of a lifetime but I am glad I did it. I will do it again, that’s for sure. Like Jimmy said, and I do feel “Experienced” after it.
