ESSENTIAL FISHING KNOT TIPS

All anglers know it’s very important to execute a proper fishing knot because it’s their most used and abused connections to the lure and the fish. Whether you want to fish using live bait or artificial lure, it’s necessary to make sure your fishing knots are correct. Here are my fishing knot tips to catch more fish.

MAKE CLEAN AND ORDERLY TIES

The most commonly used knots for fishing are called slip knots or improved clinch knots. Both of these knots are made by twisting or wrapping the line, then ending it with a loop or opening that has been pulled tight. But sometimes, pulling the wraps together tends to tangle the lines unnecessarily. The crossed lines can cause the unexpected breaking of the knots. That’s why one of the most important fishing knot tips to ensure you make a great knot. Take your time and ensure the inner line remains straight.

MOISTEN YOUR FISHING LINE

A fishing line only needs water to keep it lubricated. Wetting the line can also help in making it slide easier than when dry, thus making it more supple for tying a knot. Aside from water, some anglers also use their saliva to moisten the line.

SLOWLY PULL THE LINE TO TIGHTEN THE KNOT

While most experienced anglers can tie a knot in seconds, it’s still best if you’ll slow down a bit when cinching or tightening the lines to make sure you do it neatly.

To prevent the lines from overlapping and rubbing against each other, you have to work the wrap slowly until they can be lined up precisely side by side. You also have to apply the pressure slowly, then snap the knot while pulling on the mainline and tugging on the other end at the same time until you feel the fishing knot is snug.

PULL TO CHECK IF THE LINE IS STRONG ENOUGH

After you’ve tied your knot, you have to grab your hook or lure using one hand while giving the mainline a hard pull with the help of your other hand. Pull the line hard for at least a couple of times to be sure the knot you make is already sturdy and can be used for fishing.

Everyone can benefit from giving knots a little more care. Not only can you guarantee that your fishing knots can endure all types of use and abuse, but you will probably end up catching more fish. You can always use a fish knot tying tool to help you as you go along.
