BOXED GOON WINE COCKTAILS FOR CLASSY AND CHEAP DRINKS

Goon or boxed wine, love it or hate it, it’s easy to carry and it’s even cheaper on the wallet. Goon is packaged perfectly for camping, hiking and fishing. Where would we be without it? Well, sometimes we would definitely be better without it. I know there has been more than one time I wish I hadn’t finished off the whole 4 litres myself. For those of you who haven’t tried goon, I warn you it is an acquired taste. But at around half the price of a 6-pack of beer, beggars can’t be choosers despite the negative effects that one may succumb to.

With all that being said and a lot of experience, I have managed to improve the taste and get more drink for my buck. Here are a few recipes you might want to try to make a friendly drink by the campsite or fishing spot. Your new ingredients will cost more than your plonk. These recipes are for the full 4 litres, so adjust accordingly unless you are planning on having a big party or you are prone to excessive drinking.

These mixes are definitely not designed to be consumed the next day.

CRANBERRY AND APPLE RED GOON SANGRIA

4 litres red goon
2 liters cranberry juice
2 liters orange juice

I like to add some berries and mint to add taste.

HOT CHOCOLATE WITH RED GOON

This one is great for camping or fishing in the cold.

4 litres red goon
3 litres milk
As much dark chocolate as you can muster

You’ll need to warm up the chocolate and milk over a medium heat. Allow the chocolate to melt without making the mix too creamy. Just as the chocolate melts, add your red goon.

APPLE AND PEAR RED GOOD SANGRIA

This is another sangria recipe because goon is sweet, which makes it great for any sangria. The lemon adds just the right amount of sour to an already sweet drink.

4 litres red goon
As many sliced pears as you want
As many sliced apples as you want
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of lemon cordial
1 cup of lemon juice

WHITE GOON STRAWBERRY COCKTAIL

This is a great way to make a bubbly champagne-like drink. Your only major expense will be the strawberries.

4 litres white goon
4 litres soda water
Cup of lime cordial
Chopped and mashed strawberries

WHITE GOON MARGARITA

Now, this is my idea of a classy white goon.

4 litres white goon
4 litres orange juice
Cup of lime cordial
Chopped and mashed oranges and lemons
Orange or lemon wedges

PINEAPPLE MOJITO GOON SANGRIA

4 litres white goon
2 litres pineapple juice
Cup of lime cordial
Chopped and mashed oranges and lemons
Orange or lemon wedges
Pineapple chunks
Mint leaves

The best mojitos need a little time to mix well. I like to prepare this one thoroughly and make sure I crush up that mint to squeeze out every little bit of taste.
