Cooking Over Campfire

7 DELICIOUS GOURMET CAMPING RECIPES FOR YOUR NEXT OUTDOOR ADVENTURE

On your next outdoor excursion, you may want to veer away from the usual camping food like hot dogs, canned soup and instant noodles. Just by using a small grill, portable stove or Dutch oven, you can make sure that you eat delicious dishes despite roughing it out in the great outdoors. Discover these seven gourmet camping recipes you can try on your next outdoor adventure.

BREKKIE BURGERS

Have a hearty breakfast by cooking brekkie burgers during your camping trip. Pre-prepare a black pepper biscuit mix at home. Add water and place the mixture in a biscuit pan. While that’s cooking, you can start preparing the sausage patties and eggs. The eggs can also be cooked in a biscuit pan, so it’s just the right size. Once everything is cooked, combine and enjoy!

DUTCH OVEN PANCAKES

Melt butter on a non-stick skillet and pour your pre-prepared batter of eggs, milk, flour, salt, vanilla and sugar. Bake until the pancake has puffed up and browned lightly — this will take about 20 minutes. Once it’s ready, drizzle some maple syrup or icing sugar. You can also add fresh raspberries or other fruits.

NACHOS PIZZA

For a midday snack, you can quickly whip up some nacho pizza. Start by melting butter in a pan and then place the crispy tortilla chips, pepperoni slices, black olives and green pepper on top. Put in grated Parmesan cheese and allow it to melt and mix with the nachos. Also, pour in cream and milk, and make sure everything blends together. After cooking, place shredded Colby-Jack cheese on top.

FIRE-ROASTED SALMON WITH HERBS AND LEMON

You can prepare a gourmet meal of fire-roasted salmon with herbs and lemon over your campfire. All you need is to season the salmon fillets with sea salt, black pepper, Dijon mustard, lemon, herbs like tarragon and dill, shallots, garlic and some butter. Place the fish in individual foil on top of the grill for six to eight minutes.

LAMB CHOPS WITH GRILLED TOMATOES

Lamb chops with grilled tomatoes is a gourmet meal that’ll be easy to prepare. First, brush the tomatoes with olive oil and roast them until they’ve browned lightly. Rub both sides of the lamb chops with cumin, salt and pepper. Brush olive oil on a non-stick skillet and cook each side of the lamb chops for three to five minutes. You can cook it longer if you prefer it well done. For an even more appetising meal, you can also serve sautéed spinach alongside the lamb chops and tomatoes.

CAULIFLOWER AND ANCHOVY PASTA

To prepare this delicious meal, heat olive oil in a frying pan. Add the onions, garlic and chilli and sauté for about five minutes. Then, add the anchovies and wait for them to dissolve. Also, sauté cauliflower for five to 10 minutes, add lemon rind and juice and then combine with the onion mixture. When your pasta is cooked al dente, add the mixture. If you’re satisfied with how it’s seasoned, top with some Parmesan cheese and it is ready to serve.

GRILLED CHICKEN WITH BARBECUE SAUCE AND COLESLAW

Prepare the barbecue sauce, coleslaw and chicken at home. When you’re ready to cook, grill the chicken and brush the tops with your barbecue sauce. In about 15 minutes, the chicken will have browned and has been cooked through. Toss your coleslaw, add the dressing and serve alongside the chicken.

Camping food doesn’t have to be bland or boring. Just as long as you’re willing to prepare some of the ingredients at home, cooking them on top of the campfire or with your portable stove is completely doable. If you want to try something new, consider whipping up these delicious gourmet camping meals. Your tastebuds will thank you for it.
