5 MINUTE DINNERS WITHOUT A MICROWAVE

Microwave ovens have their place, which is normally for reheating food. They are not the best for making tasty meals. Not everyone even wants one anymore. With that in mind, we’ve collated these 5 minute meals you can cook without a microwave.

5 MINUTE RAMEN SOUP NOODLES

Okay, that sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, but they taste great and cost next to nothing. The meat cooks by itself in the broth, and well, vegetables don’t really need much else either. Give them a try without a microwave or a wok. They’re great for late night fishing when you are looking to keep warm (use a thermos of hot water).

INGREDIENTS

Ramen noodles
Steak of your choice
Lime
1 tablespoon sugar
Pepper flakes
Bean sprouts

DIRECTIONS

The trick is to have your meat sliced very thin so the heat from the broth will do the cooking. Simply cook your noodles by following what is written on the box. Once the noodles are cooked, add your meat. That’s how easy this is. I like to add fish sauce along with my sugar and lime, but you can try with anything you like. You could try basil and cilantro for an authentic taste.

5 MINUTE PAN COOKED SALMON AND TOMATOES OVER SPINACH

Cook salmon in minutes with the tomatoes and serve directly on top of your fresh spinach. Spinach tastes great with balsamic vinegar and is so good for you.

INGREDIENTS

All the salmon steaks you want
Fresh spinach
As many grape tomatoes as you want
A dash of balsamic vinegar

DIRECTIONS

Heat a frying pan to medium-high heat after adding a little olive oil. Lightly fry the fish with the skin side on the hotplate after seasoning with salt and pepper. Sear the other side when cooked half way through while adding the grape tomatoes. Serve on a bed of fresh spinach coated in balsamic vinegar. Basil is great for garnish.

5 MINUTE BLACK BEAN AND AVOCADO SALAD

With a can of black beans and a few more ingredients you have a great meal packed with protein that will give you loads of energy for the day. It’s another easy recipe for camping or fishing on hot nights.

INGREDIENTS

1 can black beans
2 avocados
100gms feta other cheese
Salsa (buying is easier)
Lime

DIRECTIONS

Simply drain the black beans from the can and decorate with your salsa, avocado and cheese. A little bit of lime and even a sprinkle of cilantro will give you a really authentic taste.

5 MINUTE NOODLE SALAD

Cook your noodles and cool in ice. They taste so good when really cold and this recipe is great for hot summer nights.

INGREDIENTS

Mixed greens
1 handful sunflower sprouts
Noodles
1 grated carrot

THE DRESSING

1/2 cup nuts
1/2 cup water, or as needed
1/2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1-2 teaspoons ground tamarind

DIRECTIONS

Toss all the ingredient in a large bowl with your dressing. You can use a blender at home or if you are out camping, prepare it first at home and take with a sealable jar.

5 MINUTE CRISPY CHICKEN AND SAGE

Chicken is packed with protein and sage is packed with flavour.

INGREDIENTS

Chicken breasts
Seasoning
Sage leaves
A dollop of butter

DIRECTIONS

Chopping up your chicken will make this easier to eat, not to mention it will cook faster. Season with salt and pepper. Cook on a large frying pan over medium-high heat with lots of butter. Once your chicken starts to brown spread your sage leaves and cook for a few more minutes.

All you have to do is serve.
