Fishing Boat Unloading Tuna In Cairns

Australia is known for having some of the best locations for fishing in the world. There are a lot of fishing areas that offer great land, boat and kayak fishing in the one location. It can be hard to declare a specific place to call as the ultimate spot to visit for fishing, but here are a few of my favourite fishing destinations where you can fish from land, a boat or a kayak.

This town located at the tip of West Australia’s North West Cape is considered as one of the world-class fishing destinations in Australia. It has forty different species of game fish living in this area that include six types of Australian billfish like the Striped and Black Marlin. There are plenty of opportunities for kayak fishing, fishing from land and deepwater fishing from a boat, again I recommend getting on a charter.

To get the most fish in Exmouth, you might want to start angling during the high tide. But if you’re competitive and would love to join a true fishing competition, you must visit the region during the GAMEX Game Fishing Tournament that is hosted by the Exmouth Game Fishing Club every March.

If you’re dreaming of fishing in the Great Barrier Reef, then this place is the perfect jump-off point. Located between the reef and the Continental shelf nearby, Cairns is considered as the Black Marlin capital of the world. It’s also the home of numerous other sailfish.

But aside from deep water fishing, you can also try estuary kayak fishing, especially during the wet season when the Barramundi are in abundance. I love kayak fishing, and Cairns has plenty of excellent locations for the sport. If game fishing is your thing, get yourself on a charter. There are many reliable charters operating out of the small town. Not to forget, there is an abundance of locations for land fishing.

If you’re into tropical river kayak fishing, then this location is the one for you. There’s a huge network of rivers connected by the peninsula’s bay. You can have your fill of different fish species, including Blue Salmon, the Threadfin Salmon, Barramundi, Fingermark and others. You can also go on a reef fishing charter or enjoy beach fishing.

If you live in Sydney and you are looking for somewhere close inland, consider a day trip to Karuah River, which is just a two-hour drive away from the city. There, you’ll find a lot of Flathead, Whiting, Luderick and Flounder.

Port Stephens also has other amazing fishing destinations including Lake Macquarie where you can find Bream, Leatherjacket and Yellowtail.

Blue Rock Lake is not only a picturesque site because of the beautiful Mt. Baw Baw but a popular fishing destination as well. There are a lot of Brown Trout and Redfin in the area. It’s also a favourite starting point for boat or kayak fishing. Still, that doesn’t mean you can’t fish from land.

These are just some of my highly recommended fishing destinations that are great for fishing from the land, on a boat or on a kayak. Give them a try and let me know how you went.
